Brazil is a vital model for Arab States Federation

South America is less popular in  world history than Europe and North America for people live in the Middle East for two reasons, one is that the Arab countries which constitute a large part of the Middle East was dominated by western powers, mostly,  British, and French. For the writer, the  only popular states were only three, as I recall since the 1960s of the past century. The Cuba of Castro and Guevara (the revolution), and Brazil of Pele the succor great player, and Argentina as it’s rival.  

Europe and the USA where having the upper hand over laws establishment, military consultations and curriculum of educational institutions. Egypt-Sudan, Saudi Arabia, the Gulf Area Sheikhdoms, and Iraq,  among the newly established  Arab countries, where  Britain culture kept strong relations with the new dominant tribes or ethnic groups in these countries. While Syria, Lebanon and most north Arab Africa nations have cultural connection with Europe, especially France and Spain. The curriculum in both British and French were consulted as well as  laws and constitutions. South America was not popular to think of or even include them in Middle Eastern curriculum and education.

I think the problem may be estimated that South America countries were struggling to find their way of independence and identity like the Arab countries. And both camps (Arabs and South Americans) were considered from the developing countries compared with European and North American advanced technologically countries. While popularity of South American countries like Brazil, Chile, and Argentina, are supposedly should be more popular among Middle East populations than Europe and North America, for historical similarity of both regions which can be described as passing toward independence and national identity, the popularity was undermined  and replaced by Europe and America.

The political experience in Brazil,  came late in 1988, where a federation of 6 states, came to be one federal district and municipality formation.  Where none  of these units has the right to secede from the Federation.  Brazilian States, like Arab States  are based on historical, conventional borders and have developed throughout the centuries, though some boundaries are arbitrary. But unlike Arab States, the states in Brazil, can be split or joined together in new states if their people express a desire to do so in a plebiscite. As Arab States, Brazilian States have autonomous administrations, collect their own taxes, but do not receive a share of taxes collected by the Federal government.  In the Arab case, their was no political unity type may  connect Arab countries together as federate. While Arab countries developed their legislations parallel to  occupiers (British and French),  in Brazil, the state have  a governor and a unicameral legislative body (Assembleia Legislativa) elected directly by their voters. Which is unlike the situation in the Arab countries,  legislator were appointed by the leader of the country.  Therefore, independent Courts of Law for common justice was not found like Brazilian states. However, compared Arab and Brazilian states with the United States political system both   countries have much less autonomy to create their own laws than in the United States. Brazil is closer to the United  States, but with one difference, for example, criminal and civil laws can only be voted by the federal bicameral Congress and are uniform throughout the country. While in the United States, each state has its own constitution concerning civil and criminal laws.

Changes in Mato Grosso state in 1977 was resulted into  two states. The northern new state retained the name Mato Grosso and the old capital, Cuiaba, while the southern area became the new state of Mato Grosso do Sul, , with Campo Grande as its capital. In 1988, the northern portion of Goias state became the new state of  Tocantins. Initially, the capital of Tocantins was the small city of Miracema do Norte (now called Miracema do Tocantins), but it was later moved to the new city of Palmas.

In the Arab countries, similar changes were happened, but less successful than in Brazil. Jordan and Iraq formed a new Union between kingdoms, it was a reaction to face Syria and Egypt  Union, almost in the same historical period between 1958 and 1961, where both unions failed to continue. In north Africa Arabs a similar union was formed but failed from Libya, Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia. The only union still surviving is the Arab Gulf States Union, which survived because of wealth of the states to keep oil revenues to the union, rather than including other poor Arab countries.

In Brazil, today the city of Rio de Janeiro  is the capital of the homonymous state,  Until 1960, Rio de Janeiro was the national capital, and its territory was Brazil's Federal District. This led to the strange and confusing situation that the city of Rio de Janeiro was not located in the surrounding state with the same name. In 1960, however, Brasilia became the new national capital, and a new Federal District was carved out of Goias  state to contain it. Then the city of Rio de Janeiro became a new state, named Duandabara (after its large bay) , as one can still find in old books. Comprising only one city, Guanabara was the only Brazilian state that had no municipalities: the city was directly administered by the state government. All these anomalies disappeared in 1975, when the states of Guanabara and Rio de Janeiro merged, retaining the name of Rio de Janeiro. The city of Rio de Janeiro then became a new municipality and the capital of the new combined state. In contrast, the Arab countries each has its own capital, and change was not made to bring the Arab states into unity, whither economic, political or social, instead, nationalization was publicized to bring more dogmas among people to national borders and identity, which stood against any model of world states.

In conclusion, the Brazilian model was accomplished historically by the people of Brazil, This model I believe, would be more applicable to the Arab nations in making federation. Nationalism as it is today as each country first, (in the case of Jordan and Egypt and Libya and the Gulf area, for example,), does not work effectively in world politics or economy like Brazil as a federal government. Therefore, my suggestion, Brazilian model have to be studied in the Arab universities in order to possible application of their political system can be implied, aside  from European and North American influence which is common in almost all Arab countries which failed (may be intentionally for political reasons) to stands with unity of Arab states federation. Thus, the Brazilian model is may be the solution to follow by Arab states to glorious political future as the Federative Republic of Brazil did and became recognized worldwide as highly successful. Swine Flu Virus

The 2009 flu pandemic is a global outbreak of a new strain of influenza virus, officially named the "new H1N1," first identified in April 2009, and commonly called "Swine flu."

It is thought to be a mutation of four known strains of the influenza A virus, subtype H1N1: one endemic in (normally infecting) humans, one endemic in birds, and two endemic in pigs.

Transmission of the new strain is human-to-human, with cooked pork products safe to eat as the virus cannot be transmitted by eating foods.

Virus source

The new virus is a type of swine influenza derived originally from a strain that lived in pigs. This origin gave rise to the common name of swine flu. Despite this origin, however, the current strain is transmitted between people, not from swine.

Symptoms

The signs of infection with swine flu are similar to other forms of influenza, and includes fever, coughing, headaches, pain in the muscles or joints, sore throat, chills, fatigue and runny nose. Diarrhea, vomiting and neurological problems have also been reported in some cases.

Severe symptoms

Certain symptoms may require emergency medical attention. In children, signs of respiratory distress, for instance, those might include blue lips and skin, dehydration, rapid breathing, excessive sleeping, seizures and significant irritability that includes a lack of desire to be held.

In adults, shortness of breath, pain in chest or abdomen, sudden dizziness or confusion may indicate the need for emergency care. In both children and adults, persistent vomiting or the return of flu-like symptoms that include a fever and cough may require medical attention.

The virus can survive on environmental surfaces and can infect a person 2 to 8 hours after being deposited on the surface.

Tap water treated by conventional disinfection processes does not likely pose a risk for transmission of influenza viruses.

Pneumonia

Influenza infection can cause pneumonia leading to death. This is typically described as either viral pneumonia, which has a rapid onset, often within one day after infection, or bacterial pneumonia, which often begins a week after infection after symptoms begins to subside.

Viral pneumonia is sometimes attributed to 'cy-tokine storm,' in which an overly active immune response damages lungs. Reports of deaths among healthy youth during first weeks of 2009 flu pandemic were attributed to this cause.

Prevention

Personal hygiene: Measures to avoid flu infection include: vaccination when available, thorough and frequent hand washing, balanced diet with fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and lean protein, sufficient sleep, exercise and avoiding crowds.

Airborne virus prevention

Masks may be of benefit in 'crowded settings' or for people who are in 'close contact' with infected persons, defined as 1 meter or less by the World Health Organization. In these cases, the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommended respirators classified as N95, but it is unknown whether they would prevent swine flu infection. According to mask manufacturer 3M, there are no "established exposure limits for biological agents" such as swine flu virus.

The UK Health Protection Agency considers facial masks unnecessary for general public.

Airline hygiene

Some airlines have modified hygiene procedures to minimise travel health risks on international flights. Asian carriers have stepped up cabin cleaning, installed State-of-the-art air filters and allowed in-flight staff to wear face masks, with some replacing used pillows, blankets, headset covers and headrest covers, while others have begun disinfecting the cabins of all aircraft.

Hygiene practices such as covering the nose and mouth when sneezing or coughing in confined areas may be the best way to limit infection.

Try to: Co-ver your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze; Wash your hands often with soap and water. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective; Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth; Try to avoid close contact with sick people; If you are sick with flu-like illness, stay home for at least 24 hours after your fever is gone.

Home remedies

There are a number of ways to help ease symptoms, including adequate liquid intake and rest, soup to ease congestion, and over-the-counter drugs to relieve pain. Aspirin is very effective for treating fever in adults although in children and adolescents, aspirin is not usually given due to risk of Reye's syndrome. While over-the-counter drugs relieve sym-ptoms, they do not kill the virus.

Antiviral drugs

Antiviral drugs can be given to treat those who become severely ill, two of which are recommended for swine flu symptoms: Oseltamivir (Tamiflu) and Zanamivir (Relenza). They work by deactivating an enzyme the virus needs to grow and spread.

Possible side effects

Both medications can cause side effects, including lightheadedness, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite and trouble breathing.

Sports Enhancement Through Hypnosis: Get Your Head In The Game!

"Get your head in the game!" is a now trendy slogan made popular by Disney's highly successful "High School Musical" movie. When it comes to playing sports, for fun or professionally, pure talent no longer is a guarantee of sports stardom and success. Focus is the key, and those that have the skills for the game and the focus to keep their head in it, will come out stars.

One such believer may be heavyweight champion Mike Tyson. As a young, up and coming fighter, Mr. Tyson used sports hypnosis to become the heavyweight champion of the world. He certainly had the skills to be a fighter, but many believe it was his drive and focus that made him a champion. If you studied any of his early bouts, you would see the determination and concentration he had.

Many sports stars use hypnosis, especially when they need to get out of a slump. But waiting until you are in a slump may not be the best choice. More than a few medalists in both Olympic Games have successfully used sports hypnosis to keep their focus and attention on the prize, they do not get second chances! Sports hypnosis has become so popular, that hypnotists have been hired by entire Olympic teams to make sure they bring home the gold.

Hypnosis works for enhancing your game, no matter what the sport. Is it a miracle worker? Will it take a person who can't throw a baseball more than 20 miles per hour and 15 feet into a baseball star? No, absolutely not. Obviously, you need the skills before hypnosis can work its wonders. However, it can take a mediocre player and make him or her good or possibly great with practice.

How does hypnosis work and what happens during a session? The answer for that question really depends on the hypnotist or psychologist that works with you. There are many techniques and theories and can vary dramatically. Some techniques are as simple as visualization.

Imagine you are a basketball player and you need to practice free throws. When you practice, you make the shots sometimes, but also miss many times. So you are practicing to miss, not practicing to make it. Of course one needs to practice but visualizing yourself making the shot every time builds confidence and esteem. It also sets the mind in motion to know what it needs to do.

It has been proven that this type of visualization technique increases shot percentage. Try it yourself if you can. Stand on the foul line and take some shots counting your baskets and misses. Then close your eyes and go through the motions of making the shot (but do not actually shoot, don't even hold the ball). Feel the motion of your arms, go through the shot and visualize, actually see the ball go in the basket. Do this numerous times until you feel you have the motion down. Then open your eyes, take the ball, relax, take a deep breath and shoot.

Take the same number of shots as before relaxing prior each shot. Remember to keep track of your hits and misses. You should see a vast improvement. This can work with most any sport, for example, gymnasts should visualize their complete routine, over and over in their minds, never missing, always landing each move perfectly.

Again, there are many techniques and the example above was a simple one using pure visualization and did not include hypnosis. This alone as part of a sports psychology session can be helpful and learning to do these techniques on your own is invaluable. But to get the full potential, hypnosis can intensify the effects of the visualization.

Do not be afraid of hypnosis. Be assured that you will not act like a chicken (unless of course you don't mind, your sport is dancing, and your routine is the chicken dance) and you will not do anything you are not willing to do. Yes, one should always check the references of whoever you choose to work with and make sure you feel comfortable with the person.

So, whatever your sport, goal, or hobby; use hypnosis to increase your potential and get your head in the game.

Baseball for Dummies

I'm writing this article for the person who knows nothing about baseball, the person who doesn't know the difference between the Triple Crown and an unassisted Triple Play. I'm not going to write about the history of baseball so if that's what you want look somewhere else, I'm going to tell you the necessary information so you can sit down on a Saturday afternoon and watch a baseball game. Even if you do know a lot I'm hoping you can learn a little. 

Introduction

Baseball is a bat and ball sport played by 2 teams of 9 players a side. The goal of baseball is to score runs by hitting a ball that is thrown by the pitcher and run around the bases. The bases are arranged on the corners of a 90 foot square called the diamond. Players on the batting team take turns hitting while the fielding team tries to get them out. Once a player on the batting team gets on base he can choose to stop in the hope that a teammate will drive him in. The teams switch between batting and fielding when the fielding team gets 3 outs. Once each team gets 3 outs that is an inning, there are 9 innings in a MLB game. The team with the most runs at the end of the game wins.

Major League Baseball

In the United States and Canada the professional baseball league is called Major League Baseball (MLB.) MLB is divided into 2 leagues, the National League (NL) and the American League (AL) which in turn, are divided into 3 divisions: East, Central and West. To determine the champion of baseball MLB uses an 8 team playoff. The teams that make it are all 6 division winners plus a Wild Card. The wild card is the team with the best record that isn’t a division winner. The first round is best of 5 while the second round and the World Series are best of 7. Each major league team has a farm system of minor league teams at various levels. These teams allow players to gain improve while playing against opponents with a similar skill level.

Equipment and Field

There are 4 basic tools in baseball: the bat, the ball, the mitt and the field

The bat is an offensive tool used by the batter that is either wood or aluminum depending on the league. It is a long stick maybe 35 inches long, 2 inches wide and 35 ounces heavy.

The mitt otherwise known as a glove is worn by the fielding team to assist in catching the ball. Mitts take various shapes and sizes to accommodate the needs of individual positions.

A baseball is about the size of a fist and white with red lacing (Although other colors could be used.)

Baseball is played on a field in which the dimensions vary depending on age. However every field has bases which are arranged on a diamond that offensive payers try to run around counterclockwise. The part of the field closest to the bases is the infield and the part farther away is the outfield.

Game Play

Baseball is played in a series of 9 innings, each of which are divided in to 2 halves, top and bottom. In each half-inning, the offensive team attempts to score runs until three of its players are put out. After the third out, the teams switch roles for the other half of the inning. The home team plays defense first, and so plays defense in the top of every inning and offense in the bottom of every inning. At the beginning of each half-inning, the nine defensive players arrange themselves on the field. One defensive player is called the pitcher and stands at the center of the diamond on a designated spot, called the mound or the rubber. Another defensive player is called the catcher and stands on the other side of home plate from the pitcher. Typically four more players are arranged along the lines between first, second, and third bases, and the other three are in the outfield.

Runs are scored as follows: starting at home plate, each offensive player attempts to earn the right to run to the next base of the diamond, then to touch the base at that corner, continuing on to each following base in order, and finally returning to home, whereupon a run is scored. Often an offensive player will achieve a base but be forced to stop there; on future plays the player may continue to advance, or else be put out.

A play begins with an offensive player called a batter standing at home plate, holding a bat. The batter then waits for the pitcher to throw a pitch (the ball) toward home plate, and attempts to hit the ball with the bat. If the batter hits the ball into play, the batter must drop the bat and begin running toward first base. There are other ways to earn the right to run the bases, such as walks or being hit by a pitched ball. The catcher catches pitches that the batter does not hit (either by choice or simple failure to make contact) and returns them to the pitcher.

If the batter fails to hit a well-pitched ball (one within the strike zone) or if he hits it so that it goes outside of the field of play it is called a strike. However, if the ball is hit over the outfield and exits the field there, it is instead (one type of) a Homerun: the batter and all other offensive players on bases may complete a tour of the bases and score a run.

When a batter begins running, he or she is then referred to as a. Runners attempt to reach a base, where they are safe and may remain there. The runner defensive players attempt to prevent this by putting the runners out using the ball; runners put out must leave the field (returning to the bench or Dugout the location where all the other inactive players and managers observe the game).

There are many ways that the team on defense can get an offensive player out. For the sake of simplicity, only the five most common ways are listed here:

1. The Strikeout: occurs when the batter acquires three strikes before hitting the ball (within the field); the batter never becomes a runner.

2. The Groundout: when the batter hits the ball but a defensive player retrieves it after it has touched the ground and throws it to another defensive player standing on first base before the runner arrives there.

3. The Forceout: occurs when a runner is required to run to advance bases ahead of a teammate's hit but fails to reach it before a defensive player reaches the base with the ball. The "ground out" is actually a special case of "force out."

4. The Flyout: if a defensive player catches a hit ball before it touches the ground, the batter (now a runner) is out (regardless of his location).

5. The Tagout: while between bases, a runner is out if a defensive player touches him with a held ball.

Baseball Statistics

Statistics play an important role in summarizing baseball performance and evaluating players in the sport. Since the flow of baseball has natural breaks to it, the game lends itself to easy record keeping and statistics. This makes comparisons between players' on field performance relatively easy, and therefore gives statistics more importance in baseball than in most other sports. Statistics have been kept for professional baseball since the creation of each league.
